dog event

Halloween just isn’t Halloween without some cute, scary and funny dog costumes! And, because we are dog obsessed here at Benebone, we wanted to throw a spooktacular Halloween pawty of our own.

We decided to host our Halloween pawty and costume contest at Dacha Navy Yard in Washington, DC. This waterfront, dog-friendly, venue made for the perfect spot to unleash all our furry, boorifiic friends.

As guests strutted in, each dog parent was treated to a free drink ticket and Benebone swag bag complete with a Benebone bacon wishbone, bandana and water bottle.

Before our costume contest began, dogs had the opportunity to pose and showcase their good looks in front of the camera for dog photographer, BashHaus Studios. This dark and spooky backdrop was a perfect fit for Halloween memories.

For even more captured fun, we brought 2 dog caricature artists to draw the attending dogs. Look how well these dog models sat for their drawings!

After drinks were drank, photos were taken and doggos were drawn, it was time to start the costume contest. Our very own VP of sales, Bob Lee, emceed the contest and kept us laughing throughout the contest.

To determine winners of our costume contest, we invited 4 local celebrities to judge the contest: @sebastianloveslluna, @sheepadoodlebear, @moogle_the_fluffy_corgi and @with.love.kaden.and.adalynn all had a ruff time judging all the great entries!

First up was the “scary” category, which was nearly impossible to judge since all the contestants were also so darn cute!

Our scary category winners were:

  • 1st Place – Pennywise & child (prize: GoPro Hero 7 & dog mount harness)
  • 2nd Place – Spider Dog (prize: $50 Visa gift card & box of Benebones)
  • 3rd Place – Dracula Frenchie (prize: $25 Dacha gift card & box of Benebones)

Up next were the Most Creative costumes. This is always a fan favorite category since most of the costumes are homemade, you’re really able to see the thought and hard work that goes into dog Halloween costumes.

Our most creative category winners were:

  • 1st Place – Needle & Thread (prize: Canon DSLR bundle kit)
  • 2nd Place – Weightlifting Dog (prize: $50 Visa gift card & box of Benebones)
  • 3rd Place – Spider Dog (prize: $25 Dacha gift card & box of Benebones)

Finally, our last Halloween costume contest was Best Group. Best Group consists of either a dog and a human or multiple dogs. This is a popular category for couples and kids, which always adds an extra cuteness factor to category.

Our best group category winners were:

  • 1st Place – Dunkin’ Donuts & Cop (prize: 2 night weekend cabin getaway)
  • 2nd Place – Lady Superheroes (prize: $50 Visa gift card & box of Benebones)
  • 3rd Place – Beekeeper family (prize $50 Dacha gift card & box of Benebones)

If you have any event photos that you would like to share in our fan submitted gallery, please send photos to meesha@benebone.com. The full gallery of Washington, DC event  photos can be found on our Facebook page, as well as our Events page. As always, we would love for you to tag @mybenebone with #benebone with any event photos you share on social so that we can share them as well.

We had such a fun time at our spooktacular Halloween pawty and hope all our furry friends have a fun and safe Halloween! If you missed any of our events this year, keep an eye on our Events page to see which cities we will be visiting in 2020.

Not even mother nature could stop our kayak pawty! Despite having to delay our New York City kayak and stand-up paddleboard event one day due to the weather, we still had a great time meeting current Benebone fans, new Benebone fans and their humans!

To celebrate the end of a wonderful summer, we rented out the Manhattan Kayak facility to allow dogs and their humans to come kayak and paddleboard through the iconic Intrepid Bay.

We loved seeing all the different dogs that came out to enjoy the day. We kayaked with small dogs, large dogs and every size in between.

One of our favorite fans and former Benebone Ambassador, @the_daily_ollie, even drove into New York City from New Jersey to show off his fluffy kayaking skills!

Not to be outdone was @nyyankeedog, Shaggy, who skateboarded his way into our hearts!

And, it wouldn’t be a summer pawty without a weiner (dog)! We had the pleasure of meeting @edgar_the_mighty and his Mom, Christa, at our past Boris & Horton event. We were thrilled when they made arrangements to come see us again at our kayak event.

We also received fashion tips from none other than the fashionista herself, @hollyhappyhavanese. Holly even traded in her designer threads to pose in our Benebone bandana for the day!

We also got to meet Instagram celebrity, @thedailywalter! As you can see, Walter Cronkite knows exactly how to work it for the camera.

Once everyone worked up an appetite kayaking and paddleboarding, the dog parents were treated to a catered dinner from Dig Inn, while the pups got to chew on their bacon flavored Benebones.

Every attendee received a Benebone tote bag, which included: a bacon wishbone, bandana, tennis ball and water bottle to keep the pawty going throughout the weekend.

Check out all the fun we had and cuties we met through the gallery below (or check out our Facebook gallery).*

If you attended the Manhattan Kayak event and would like to share the photos you took, please send any photos to meesha@benebone.com, so that we can share your gallery with other attendees. And, as always, we kindly ask that you tag us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with #benebone so we don’t miss your post.

If you missed this kayak and paddleboard event, don’t worry, we will be back next summer! Be sure to keep an eye on our events page to see when and where we will be popping up.

Since we are a New York-based company, New York City will always have a special place in our hearts. When we heard the buzz around Boris & Horton, we knew that we wanted to host a pawty there to engage with our current fans and meet new ones.

We were honored to meet so many New York dog parents and even a few that drove in from New Jersey!

For this event, we invited Social Tees NYC – a local NYC dog rescue. This no-kill organization is unique in that they rely solely on foster parents. That’s right, Social Tees NYC does not have a facility, so they rely on dog events and social media to help raise awareness to have their dogs adopted. We are happy to report that all of the visiting Social Tees dogs had an attendee put in an adoption application!

With the help of our amazing social media fans, through our Bandana Campaign, we donated a check in the amount of $500 to Social Tees NYC! We encourage everyone to check out the adorable, adoptable dogs Social Tees NYC has in their care.

It was great to see so many dog parents mingling with each other – sharing dog stories and a common love for all things dog! Attendees were also given the opportunity to take home a new piece of art to hang in the house …. Because, dog art is the best art!

To keep the pawty going through the weekend, each attending dog received a Benebone swag bag complete with our durable bacon wishbone, a Benebone bandana, tennis ball and a Benebone water bottle.

We would love to meet you and your dog at our next event. Check out our events page to see which city we will be popping up at next. In the meantime, enjoy the photos below from our Boris & Horton pop-up event.

We came, we partied and your dog chewed!

This year, we decided to take Benebone on the road! We realized that while we have such great social media friends, we have never met many of you in person. At the same time, there are so many great dog parents who may not know about Benebone and we want to personally introduce our brand to you.

We kicked off our chewing tour in Nashville, Tennessee. What better way to start our events then with some southern hospitality, great music and fun dog parents.

Our first day in Nashville was spent visiting dog parks. In total, we visited 3  dog parks: Centennial Dog Park, Edwin Warner Dog Park and Riverfront Dog Park. During our last dog park stop, we invited professional dog photographer, Amiee Stubbs, and local Thai rolled ice cream truck, Rolled 4 Ever Ice Cream. Each dog and their human were treated to a free ice cream (yes, there was dog-friendly ice cream) and a free Benebone bacon wishbone, all while having fun and having their photo taken.

Our second day in Nashville was spent at Nashville Pet Products’ Cruzen Street store, where we hosted a Instagram Workshop for dog parents. We invited 4 local Instagram celebrities: @jackthewallaby, @jim_bear_rigney, @chessonchairs and @wildingwandersto come speak with pet parents about how to start, maintain and grow their Instagram account.

We wrapped up our Nashville trip with a Yappy Hour at the Nashville Pet Products’ Franklin, TN store. Why let humans have all the fun?! Being that we are a dog-inspired company, we wanted this Yappy Hour to be for the dogs!

We setup a Benebone Tasting Bar, which included bacon martinis, peanut butter and “crackers” and chicken jerky, which all highlight Benebone’s flavors: bacon, peanut and chicken.

Since dogs don’t have thumbs to take selfies to commemorate the experience, we bought along a local dog caricature artist to draw each attending dog.

And, because, what’s a Benebone event without a Benebone? Each attendee went home with a free Benebone tote filled with a bacon wishbone and some Benebone swag.

We are happy to announce that we will be visiting other cities throughout the year and will continue the Benebone parties throughout 2020! Be sure to check out our events page on our website to see if we will be throwing a party near you!

You may have seen us comment and mention on social media that we would love to meet all our furry friends and their awesome parents. So, we’ve started taking our social media presence on the road! It’s always exciting to meet our social media friends and introduce ourselves to dog parents that might not yet know about Benebone.

First up was the Baltimore BarkHappy event hosted at Monument City Brewing Company.

If you’re unfamiliar with BarkHappy and their events, they host dog events in various cities throughout the country at local restaurants or bars. While you do need to buy a ticket to attend, a portion of the proceeds will go to a local dog shelter in that area. For the Baltimore events, BarkHappy teams up with the Baltimore County Humane Society.

These meetups are a great way to make new friends, check out local vendors and socialize your dog.

We were lucky to meet and talk with over 40 dogs and their parents. We met dogs as small as yorkies to dogs as large as a Great Dane. We’ve gathered a collection of photos from the event taken by Natalie of Landrum Photography, LLC for your viewing pleasure.

We would love to hear what city you are in and where we should travel to next! Please leave a comment below or tag us on your Twitter, Instagram or Facebook photos with #Benebone showing us where you call home.
